Hated the food. General Tao chicken is soggy in a runny sauce. Also ordered the sweet and sour pork. The fact it smelled like petsmart ruined the meal for me

I hadn't ordered here in a long while so I figured I'd give them a shot. I figured since I was only ordering two Buddhist Delights (just some veggies with fried rice) with carrot and baby corn it shouldn't be too bad. The lady tells me it'll be 50 to 55 minutes for the delivery which I hesitantly agreed to. So when 1 hour and 20 minutes went by needless to say I called about my order. The lady rudely tells me the driver left a few minutes ago he's busy blah blah... then suddenly she's telling me he left a while ago. I asked her if she could call him to see where he is... she tells me she just called him and when I challenged her she hangs up on me. I called back and told her that I would like to speak to a manager. She tells me the manager is not there... I tell her I would like to cancel the order. She says fine. Soon as I hang up the phone the delivery person comes. I tell him that I had canceled the order and thanks but no thanks... he starts yelling something I don't know if it was English or Chinese but I closed the door and locked it. He knocks a couple of times and after I turn off the outdoor light he leaves. Crazy right? I won't tell you what you should do because maybe your experience will hopefully be different (I doubt it but maybe o_o)... But I definitely WILL NOT recommend this place to anyone. They can't even be nice to the people that pay them. And then to rudely hang up on the customer (who's completely justified in wondering where their food is)... and/or arrive at their home and essentially yell at them because THEY were late that's just completely mind boggling. I guess I'll have to stick to China Taste or that Cafe Asia place because this place is just a no and never again.

Order take out tonight from KN1 and the experience left me speechless. We ordered pepper steak, general tso's chicken, 2 egg rolls, and fried rice. Took 30 minutes more than the quoted 45 minutes--not a problem. I opened up my food and the smell was bad--burnt bad. I thought oh well I can get through it. I start to eat a piece of the chicken (general tso's) and it was not edible---burnt to a crisp. I decided to call back to request another meal and the lady on the phone had the nerve to ask me why did I keep the meal if it was bad? Huh? I was confused. I'm supposed to go to my kitchen table check the food---not to see if it's correct BUT to see if it's fresh/not burnt, etc and return to the door and give a justifiable answer. I didn't know this is what's expected---did anyone? I advised her I was not going to sit on the phone and debate and argue with her----she then said they close at 10:30pm and they would basically bring it on there way home. Can you say speechless and hungry---nonetheless. I accepted anyway. Before I hung up I was called an angry b-w and a bitch. I don't believe in writing reviews when emotions are attached but this one I would feel stupid if someone has to experience this kind of service b/c I DID NOT leave the review. I have never been cussed out by an establishment I selected to partronize and spend the money I get up at 4am and deal with traffic to go make. I'm stunned.

So I JUST hung up the phone from placing an order for delivery. My family lives close by and we have been going to this restaurant for years. We actually used to go once week and we have never had a problem before. Apparently, they changed their rules on delivery. The delivery fee has ALWAYS been a $10 minimum. I ordered $9.30 worth of food according to the menu price and normally they would let you pass. The guy told me I had to spend $15 worth of food to deliver. I was shocked and honestly irritated. I then ordered an extra order of egg rolls. He said the price was now $17. Ridiculous! I was appalled so then he explained that originally the price was $12. Clearly, the menu prices and and the real prices are not the same! I placed my order anyway and now I'm hoping I don't find bugs in my food!

This place is just ok. They often get our order wrongs and the wonton soup is just nasty. The Shrimp Egg Foo Yung had a very thick cold gravy all over it.

The worst ever, both in service and quality and quantity of food. I remember years ago going to this buffet and the place was packed. . Not now, and I clearly understood why upon viewing the buffet. 3 of 10 trays were empty on one bar, and 3 of 5 of the "fried" food dishes were empty on the 2nd bar. We were served drinks by a 2-year old on a red tricycle . . yes, you heard it. A 2 year old whose mommy was supposed to be the waitress and apparently thought it was cute her child served customers. (He was cute). Then, we waited for some trays to fill up and they never did. Finally, after more than 1/2 hour, we asked when the food trays were going to fill up and were told by a very mean nasty man that he wasn't about to cook food that would waste and the food bar closed at 1:30, so if we want something we should ask for it. What?? We arrived at 12:30, waited 30 minutes to get some fried foods and now they were closing and didn't want to cook more food to waste? I highly recommend people take a close look at all these yelp comments and realize there hasn't been any improvement in years, apparently. NEVER AGAIN ! ! ! I should have eaten at McD's; cheaper and better for sure.

As so many others have mentioned, the quality of this restaurant is nowhere near the level that I grew to love. I've gone to Kitchen No. 1 for years, so long that I remember when there was not an expanded dining area. A few years ago the familiar older employees changed to a younger staff. With it, the prices went up and the quality and quantity went down. My favorite dishes--the Kung Pao Shrimp and Shrimp with Broccoli--used to be delicious. Now, the flavors are different and the dishes are 90% broccoli with a few shrimp hidden within. So you pay over $9 for a generous portion of veggies. So while I have been disappointed for a while, I had still patronized this location due to the closeness to my job and a hope that it would return to its former glory. A few months ago, a dine in experience left me so disappointed, I vowed to never step foot in to this place again, and I haven't. I was there with coworkers for the lunch buffet. While the pans were a little slow to be refilled, it was generally acceptable. As we were leaving, the table sitting right next to us had just sat down with their first plates from the buffet and started eating. The waiter came over and told them the buffet was closed and actually picked up their plates from the table with their food. The lady literally still had her fork in her hand. When those diners questioned why the buffet was closing around 50 minutes before the posted end time, the waiter said "there was not enough people in the restaurant to keep it going" and he would "bring them the menu to order from." My group left right about the time the diners were complaining that the lack of business on their part shouldn't hinder them. I stopped off at the counter and talked to the girl at the counter and told her I was surprised by this decision on their part and it was not great service. She just politely listened and told me they would be receiving menus to get fresh food. Well, that's nice and all, but that also implies that the food on the buffet isn't fresh and it also limits those diners to one specific entree (no buffet variety,) prevents them from an all you can eat lunch (as was advertised) and requires them to pay a higher set price than the buffet. As such, I have avoided this place and have found a few other Chinese and Asian alternatives that I find to be all around better.

Good Chinese food for the money. I always get the shrimp fries rice and hot n sour soup to go. Always tasty and not to bland or greasy. I did order a steak n cheese which was okay but not the bomb and didn't include my peppers. Anywhoo as mentioned before the food is okay...

Went to lunch late -1:40 PM. My friend Cynthia & I ate at the lunch buffet. Food was ok-pretty picked over that late in the day but we were in a hurry. The server was very polite and made us a fresh batch of dumplings & fried crab won tons. they were really good hot & not greasy. It was a rainy dreary day we had hot tea which was awesome. Lunch in a total of 45 minutes -good enough for the day ;0) Then back to work

Kitchen NO 1 has been in the strip mall location for a very long time. It is my main chinese food take-out place, and they actually deliver to a larger area than many delivery restaurants in the area, which is great if i actually want my food delivered to my house which is 10-15 minutes away. Now saying this, Kitchen No 1 isn't the restaurant it was a long time ago. It is in an area that doesn't get a huge amount of business, so i'm guessing it hasn't grown considerably over time. The food also is hit and miss. I have eaten there soooo many times over the years that I know what to get and what not to get for my money. Like many local chinese food places, the prices listed are never what you wind up paying, i don't know how that works out but i think many people learn to live with it. Usually the counter staff are well versed in English, usually the children or workers of parents who might not speak English well so there isn't any language problems. Now to the food. Again, you usually have to eat there a few times to start deciding what food you like and don't like, portions, etc. The fried rice I do not like. It isn't the fluffy vegetable fried rice that you often get in chinese restaurants, this is heavier, more sauce, large cuts of onions (i hate onions in my fried rice), and i call it the "dark underbelly" of fried rice. Also many dishes that come mixed with vegetables always seem to be heavy on the vegetables and light on the meat, and often the quality changes from week to week. Maybe different suppliers? As to the food I often order and love. The General Tso chicken is my favorite. Plenty of chicken, heavy General Tso sauce that actually appeals to me, and.. just chicken and lots of it. The Kung Pao dishes are nice also, lots of vegetables but plenty of fixins and good sauce. I often fall back on the Broccoli dishes like Shrimp/chicken/beef and broccoli, a fresh batch of Broccoli and enough meat to satisfy. Some of the other meat dishes fall into the "too many vegetables not enough meat" department to save costs of course. So i don't want to play such prices for mixed vegetables which cost must less than the filler meats. Overall the food is a bit higher than i would like, some dishes aren't worth the price, but they have always been nice and polite, deliver to a large area (i tip well since i live a bit away), and other than the fried rice, i like their dishes and sauces.

Great food and plentiful portions at a very decent price. It's a Friday ritual to go there.

I have been a customer at Kitchen No. 1 for years, being a resident of Upper Marlboro practically my entire life. The food that they serve now is no where near what it used to be. This past year in particular has gotten increasingly worse. I'm convinced that the Kung Pao Chicken is no longer chicken, even though that's what was ordered. There is no way. And even if it is chicken... it's disgusting. We WILL NOT be eating here again.

The lunch buffet is good, but the service has MUCH to be desired. The main lady there is extremely mean. I've seen people walk out because of how she treats them. Plus, if you use a credit card over the phone and have the order delivered to your work, they won't complete the order unless you give them your full house address. Not cool.
